Adulting Survival Guide: Rule #1 Choose Proximity

I’ve decided to start making a list of the top Adulting Survival Tips that I have picked up. The “Millenial 10 Commandments” if you will.

When it comes to basic life maintenance – dentist, hair salon, nail salon, doctors, gym – I know you want to go to the places with the best reviews on Yelp or the one that knows the name of all your dogs.

But if there’s the same service your neighborhood that’s almost as good, that’s the one for you.

According to the Adulting Survival Guide, if at all possible, your life maintenance stops should be within 10 minutes or less.

Here’s why

  1. It will take up less of your day getting there and back, leaving more time for whatever other adulty things you have to do.
  2. You are more likely to go because it’s close (when’s the last time you had a check up, by the way?)

Added bonuses:

  1. You get to know your neighborhood and your neighbors
  2. You support businesses in your area

There’s one loophole with this Adulting Tip: This rule also applies to work, so if you can find life maintenance places near your office, those count.

Keep in mind, this rule applies everywhere you are. So if you move, you find new places that meet the rule regulations.

Now get out there and do some life maintenance, you adult!

  1. Love this! Great tip – I have recently done this. I went from a 45 minute commute to work to a 10 minute one. Literally life changing and I now have no need to leave this area because all of my essentials are here as well!
